The next morning, Jordyn woke up in “extreme pain” with her eyes so swollen she could barely keep them open.
After speeding to the emergency room in her hometown of Seattle, Washington, she was told the lenses had removed the outer layer of her cornea and she may need surgery or even lose her vision completely.
“Miraculously,” Jordyn’s eyes began to heal over the next few days, but her vision continued to deteriorate.Doctors told her she might have recurrent corneal erosions – meaning she might wake up one morning and the same “horrible” thing would happen again.
Jordyn said of the incident: “It’s a true Halloween nightmare. It’s something I never thought would happen.
‘It’s very scary. There are days when my vision is completely blurry and I can’t see anything.I am afraid that I will go blind in my right eye.
“I would never wear contact lenses again unless they were made by an expert who really told me they were very safe to wear.”
Jordyn, who has used contact lenses in the past, said she used drops to condition her eyes before putting them on, but her regular removal methods didn’t work because they felt “too big.”
She said: “I just started putting eye drops in my eyes and splashing it with cold water. It felt like something was stuck in my eye so I just rinsed and rinsed and rinsed trying to get it out.
“My eyes were red and nothing. I opened my eyes and asked my friends to look with a flashlight to see if they could see what was stuck in there.
The master’s student woke up the next day saying her eyes were “burning” and swollen, which is when she went to hospital and received the devastating news that she may have lifelong vision problems.
Jordyn said: “The doctor looked at my eyes and basically said that the outer layer of my cornea looked like it had been completely removed – that’s why the pain was so severe.
“He told my boyfriend, ‘She could go blind. I’m not going to whitewash it, it’s really bad.’
After returning home with eye drops, painkillers, antibiotics and an eye patch, she said her vision “improved about 20 percent” over the next few days. However, the situation has continued to deteriorate since then.
Jordyn added: “Since that incident, there’s always been a small area in the very center of my eyes that feels dry to some extent, which makes my eyes even more sensitive, so I can barely go outside without my sunglasses on. Sun. Otherwise they’ll be watering like crazy.
“My vision in my right eye is noticeably worse. It’s always not good – I can see small text from far away, but now it’s game over. If I look at the notepad in front of me with my right eye, I’m Can’t recognize words.
She is now working to heal and learn to live with the potential that her eyes may continue to deteriorate. She also wants people to think twice before using Contacts without a suitable car.
Jordyn said: “It’s scary to me because they’re so easy to get. I think about young kids and how easy it is to use a debit card and order things online.
