Many fans first noticed the change when Haley started sharing photos from the Hawkeye series.In a photo shared to her Instagram account on February 8, 2021, Hailey wore a full Kate outfit.From the purple suit to the arrow in the quiver, it’s clear Hailey was in Kate Bishop mode.
However, if you zoom in on the photo, it’s easy to notice that Hailey was wearing blue contact lenses at the time.Fans aren’t sure if Marvel Studios plans to include Kate’s blue eyes in the series, but the images confirm it.

While blue contact lenses are clearly a nod to the comics, Hailey may also be wearing them, as her onscreen parents Eleanor (Vera Farmiga) and Derek (Brian Darcy James) have Light colored eyes.So it makes sense that their daughters have similar iris shades.
When photos of Hailey’s blue eyes circulated on social media, many of her fans were disappointed.They love her natural eye color (light brown/hazel) and they wish Hawkeye didn’t choose to hide them.
Some thought the addition looked unnatural, with one fan writing, “Is there a reason Hailee Steinfeld on the Hawkeye show? Like, blue eyes and dark hair are such an integral part of the character that she looks goofy , [I don’t know I don’t care about the accuracy of the comics until someone comes in and tells me.”

We understand Marvel Studios’ desire to be more comical in the future, but several other characters in the MCU don’t have the same eye color as their superhero counterparts.
Robert Downey Jr. overlays his natural brown eyes as Tony Stark/Iron Man over the blue eyes of the comic book character.As for Captain Marvel, Brie Larson’s light brown orbs stayed where Carol Danvers’ natural blue eyes were.

This decision is often based on creative preference, so if Hailee and Hawkeye showrunners feel that blue contacts are the only option to bring Kate Bishop to life, we fully support it.
