Sam’s Club Optical Review: 5 Things You Need to Know Before Your First Visit

If you wear glasses, you know how expensive and inconvenient it can be to replace them. I’ve been wearing glasses for many years and haven’t changed them for a long time because I wanted to avoid the hassle.
In this article, I’ll talk about Sam’s Club Optical: a convenient option for buying glasses, contact lenses, and getting your vision tested.
This article was updated in September 2023 and I review it every six months. Detailed instructions for all updates can be found here.
If you need an eye exam, new glasses or contact lenses, Sam’s Club Optical may be the place to consider. Although you must have an active membership to purchase glasses and contact lenses, anyone can schedule an eye exam.
When I stopped by my local Sam’s Club in search of eyeglasses, I discovered that there were many brands, frames, and styles to choose from, all at competitive prices. Additionally, I understand that Sam’s Club Plus members are eligible for additional discounts.
Before you place an order or schedule an eye test, here are five things you need to know about Sam’s Club glasses:
Below you’ll find detailed information, including what to expect when purchasing glasses from Sam’s Club, how to make your first appointment, and how to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
Sam’s Club Optical offers a wide selection of prescription and non-prescription glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. If you don’t yet have a prescription, Sam’s Club Optical stores also offer eye exams from independent optometrists.

While you can browse our selection of prescription glasses online and even try them on virtually, prescription glasses can only be purchased at Sam’s Club stores with Optometry Centers.
Sam’s Club offers hundreds of different pairs of prescription glasses from more than 50 brands, but the selection varies from warehouse to warehouse. Our selection includes glasses with the Sam’s Club member logo, as well as other popular brands and high-end designer styles.
In addition to different frame options, Sam’s Club also offers several different lens materials and types. These include single vision plastic lenses, single vision polycarbonate lenses, and progressive lenses (including wireless bifocals). Contact lens solution, eye drops, sunglasses, and over-the-counter reading glasses can also be purchased online or in store.
Alternatively, you can order contact lenses online by visiting this website. There you will find popular contact lens brands including Acuvue, Air Optix, Daily, Biofinity and more.
If you have a Sam’s Club optical center near you and need a prescription for new glasses or contact lenses, consider scheduling an eye exam there.
An eye exam at Sam’s Club Optical costs about $80, depending on where you live. Compared to other popular eye centers, I found that Sam’s Club offers the cheapest eye exams on average.
However, you should call your local Sam’s Club Optical Center to get an accurate estimate for your eye exam cost before making an appointment. If you purchase contact lenses or renew your contact lens prescription, you may have to pay an additional fee.
Additionally, you must be a Sam’s Club member to purchase glasses, contact lenses or accessories in stock. But you don’t have to be a member to schedule an eye test at Sam’s Club and get great deals.
To schedule an appointment, visit the Sam’s Club website and use the store locator to find a dispensary near you.
Here you can enter your zip code or city and state to find your nearest warehouse. Be sure to check the box next to Optical Center (below the position line). Then find the phone number on the left side of the screen and call your nearest optical center to make an appointment.
The prices of frames you find at Sam’s Club Optical vary depending on the material and manufacturer. Contact lens prices vary depending on desired features and prescription requirements.
Sam’s Club Optical offers frames starting at $59, but higher-end models have a higher price tag. You’ll find everything from member logos to designer brands.
If you’re shopping for prescription sunglasses, frames can be found for as little as $59, including single vision plastic frames. These are the same type of lenses that come with regular prescription glasses. Prescription bifocal sunglasses are also available in a variety of colors, ranging from $160 to $290.
All Sam’s Club glasses come with a 60-day limited warranty, and you can purchase a one-year warranty through Allstate’s Square Trade for $24.99.
If you take the time to compare stores, you may find lower prices from online competitors such as Zenni Optical and EyeBuyDirect. However, prices at Sam’s Club will likely beat those at Warby Parker, Target Optical, and even Costco.
At Sam’s Club, Contact starts at $13.85 per box, but prices vary greatly depending on the brand you buy. Be sure to check prices from reputable online retailers to ensure you are getting the best deal.
Of course, you must be a Sam’s Club member to take advantage of these prices. As of this writing, a Standard membership costs $50 per year and a Plus membership costs $110 per year. However, if you plan to purchase glasses, the membership fee may be worth it. And if you’re a Sam’s Club Plus member, you can save an extra 20% on frames and lenses in stock.

If you want to use your vision insurance to pay for an eye test, prescription glasses or contact lenses at a Sam’s Club optical store, you’ll need to call your local store or go in person to see if your insurance is accepted.
Unfortunately, you can’t enter your insurance information online to check coverage or use it to purchase contact lenses. This means you must place your order in person at your nearest warehouse to take advantage of these offers.
When you buy prescription glasses from Sam’s Club, the store clerk will likely have to order the frames and lenses from the manufacturer, so this increases the time it takes to purchase glasses from Sam’s Club.
Typically, prescription glasses will arrive within 7-10 business days after ordering, and contacts will typically ship within 5-7 business days.
Overall, I have found that Sam’s Club can be a good place to get your eyes tested and order your prescription glasses or contact lenses. You can find a wide range of quality products at average prices online and in stores compared to other optical centers.
For single vision plastic lenses and frames, you’ll only pay between $59 and $160. However, by comparing prices, I was able to beat the prices of other online stores. It’s up to you to decide whether Sam’s Club’s coverage and convenience is worth the price difference.
To optimize your savings, be sure to check whether insurance benefits are available to you. If you’re a Sam’s Club Plus member, you’ll get an extra 20% off frames and lenses.
Finally, check online or contact your local warehouse for current sales and discounts. The Sam’s Club optical center closest to me used to have a buy one get one free deal on kids’ glasses.
